Community Interpreting Assessment Session

Are you currently working as a professional interpreter and looking to gain a formal qualification? Or are you just starting out in the interpreting field? If so, the Level 3 Certificate in Community Interpreting could be the perfect fit for you.

Accredited by the Open College Network (OCN), the 4 Community Interpreting Units are widely recognised across the interpreting industry. It is also considered the minimum standard required for most paid interpreting roles. Upon successful completion of the course, you'll be eligible to register with Interpreting Agencies and start your career in the field.

As this is an accredited course, direct enrolment is not possible. All applicants must first complete an initial assessment and induction session before enrolling in the Preparing for Community Interpreting and Community Interpreting L3courses.

  • Introductory Course Info HE


    This online session is designed to assess your English skills to determine your readiness for the Preparing for Community Interpreting course.

  • Entry Requirements


    To be eligible for this course, you must:

    Be 18 years of age or older

    Have fluent use of all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

    Possess English skills at Entry Level 3 or above.

    Be able to read, write, and speak fluently in your community language – most learners are native speakers of their community language

    We currently accept the following community languages: Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Farsi, French, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Nepalese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish, and Urdu.

    You must also be able to:

    Use Microsoft Word to complete written assessments.

    Send emails with Word document attachments.

    Use Zoom to attend the Community Interpreting Part 1 and Part 2 online courses.

  • Course Content


    During this online assessment session, you'll learn more about the field of Community Interpreting, meet the course tutor, and have the chance to ask any questions you may have about working as an interpreter.

    As part of the session, we will carry out an English assessment to ensure the course is suitable for your current skill level. These assessments focus on evaluating the accuracy of your written and spoken English.

    After the session, successful candidates will be contacted by the tutor via email with details on how to enrol in the Preparing for Community Interpreting course, which is delivered online.

  • Progression Next Steps


    If you are successful, you will be eligible to enrol in any of our Preparing for Community Interpreting courses. Please note all our interpreting courses are delivered online. Following the assessment, the tutor will notify you of your results via email within 48 hours.

    Please note: This assessment session is not free and no concessions are available. The fee is fixed at £10. Please be aware that the session will be conducted online. The tutor will send you the link to join the session a few hours prior to the start.
