This course will teach you how to make a variety of beautiful soft furnishings items for your home to a professional standard

Anyone with prior knowledge will be able to create more advanced soft furnishings such as interlined curtains and blinds, bed coverings, decorative cushions, lampshades and more.

  • Entry Requirements


    This course is suitable for all levels, though some basic experience using a sewing machine is helpful. If you are completely new to sewing, you may wish to explore our Clothes Making courses first.

  • Course Content


    By the end of the course, you'll be able to:

    *Measure your windows accurately for blinds and curtains

    *Choose suitable fabrics and estimate the required quantities

    *Understand the processes involved in making both blinds and curtains

    *Design and create a piped cushion cover with a neatly inserted zip fastening

    All essential equipment will be provided, but you may wish to bring your own fabrics, trims, or patterns for specific projects. Details about materials will be discussed during the first session. Please wear suitable clothing for practical work and bring a notebook or sketchbook for recording measurements and design ideas

  • Course Structure


    One session per week. This is a non-accredited course, designed to help you build practical skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. It runs over nine sessions per term, offering a balance of guided instruction and practical making time. Each session builds on the last, allowing you to develop your skills and confidence as you go.

  • Teaching and Learning


    Learning takes place through a mix of demonstrations, guided practice, and individual project work. You will have the opportunity to plan and create your own soft furnishing projects under the guidance of an experienced tutor. There will be time in each session for discussion, feedback, and developing your practical techniques.
