“I knew that Photography was something that I was really interested in doing in the future. After comparing this course with my school's sixth form I felt that with all the amazing photography facilities at Kingston College’s dedicated Creative Industries Centre and by choosing a BTEC option I would be able to just focus on photography, and I could get the best out of the course.”

Undergoing work placements, listening to talks from well-established professionals, and doing digital/traditional coursework helped me gain insight into what I might do in my future career. My incredibly supportive tutors and amazing peers allowed me to have a more enjoyable adventure throughout the course. Her guidance and belief in my abilities have been key factors in my academic achievements and personal growth."
“I chose to study a BTEC course as it gave me the same education opportunities as A Levels which means I have now qualified for university. This was the best academic choice for me. I chose Kingston College because it was such a welcoming environment on the Open Day and it’s local to me. The lecturers that I had were just amazing and extremely supportive (especially my tutor Kristina!). They were always there to help and had your best interests at heart. I definitely made good friends at college and will keep in touch when I have gone to university.”

I’ve really enjoyed the interaction with colleagues, great LRC, peaceful environment where to study and meet, lovely canteen, diverse community, extra discount for the gym, unions, hair salon and many more. I’ve had many experiences for new opportunities at the College, I didn’t expect it to be such fun!
I have met great friends to work and train with and approachable tutors who are always helpful.
Don’t wait to enrol! I should have done it earlier.
"My favourite part of the course are the practicals - like expeditions to Bushy Park to practice our map reading skills and learning about all the different public services and how they work. I’ve had a lot of different opportunities, like being able to go to the Houses of Parliament. We would have visited Kingston Crown Court but unfortunately due to COVID we couldn’t go in and watch the court case, so we watched a court case online instead. I also spent a week’s work experience at Croydon Fire Station learning about how the fire fighters live, work and help everyone within the community. Also being able to talk to the Area Commander for Kingston Fire Brigade, talking to army personal and police officers about their roles face to face was really cool!"
I enjoyed my placement and learned a lot. I gained extra knowledge about nursing and looking after vulnerable adults which supported my UCAS Personal Statement in terms of having experience in the health sector.
I had the opportunity to receive First Aid training at College which enabled me to become competent with lifelong skills that are relevant to my dream career of nursing. I also enjoyed a trip to Germany with course mates and lecturers, which was fun getting to hang out with each other in a calmer environment.
Kingston College is the best college because the staff are very supportive and understanding. You will never regret enrolling at Kingston because they have a variety of courses suitable for every individual's interests. One more thing, the timetables are flexible which will give you time to engage in extra-curriculum activities.
I’ve really enjoyed the practicals and experiments and the case studies and documentaries. College life is sort of what I’d expected but is less stressful than I thought it would be. I’ve learned to be independent with my studies. The opportunities I’ve loved are the sports clubs at lunch which I’ve been constantly going to. I’ve met a lot of amazing teachers and friends who are very passionate about their learning.
Nothing is impossible. Even the word itself says ‘I’m possible’.
“The course is fascinating with lecturers that are very knowledgeable about their subjects and a perfect choice for any science based undergraduate course. “Whilst the course is tough, it's rewarding to do well and the lecturers are all very helpful and willing to aid you. There's also a lot of content on the college Moodle that can answer nearly any question. “The course has given me bucketloads of knowledge about the sciences that will help me in my Palaeontology course at university, with all sorts of knowledge that I'll need to rely on at uni. Enjoy the course, I know I have!"

She says: “I received a lot of support as an Access student at Kingston College, all lecturers were helpful not only academically but were also invested in us as individuals to prepare us for our future as professionals in our chosen career paths.
"The Access course may feel fast paced at times, but you will find it makes you a more independent learner and prepares you for academic and professional life! Make sure to go out of your comfort zone, participate and engage with lecturers as much as possible, I personally found this helped me understand what I was learning! Most important is you will make some great friendships along the way.”

Craig received a job offer as a GMP Production Scientist in Cambridge (the hub of biotechnology, research and scientific innovation) before he had even received his final year exam results. Dara is a fantastic and hard-working Student Ambassador and Student Councillor, and we feel privileged that she chose to study at Kingston College. She says: "I chose to pursue a BTEC in IT because of my passion for technology and its ever-evolving landscape and Kingston College stood out to me for its amazing facilities and supportive environment. The first day I arrived, I fell in love with the place, making the decision to join an easy one.”
It’s a very good course with many advantages and benefits for those who are learning the language. It is only necessary to have a lot of dedication and everything will be very rewarding. As a student of this course I had the opportunity to make visits to some important museums and places that helped me to know more about the history of the country.
Coming to Kingston College was one of the best decisions I have made. With great facilities, the College provides a wide variety of different instruments, DJ equipment, and more. As well as this, I will always be grateful for the encouragement and support I have received from my fantastic tutors who are all encouraging, informative and helpful of the preparation for the different musical paths that you can take.
Kingston College has an extremely friendly environment, and it's been amazing being surrounded by like-minded people who are all working hard towards their future career.
Gaining hands on experience in the College salon is one of the best experiences of the course. From putting all the previous cutting skills and knowledge in the training sessions to working on a client in a ‘real life’ scenario is unbeatable! This is where I personally felt that all the theory and previous practice sessions really started to make sense.
Interacting with the tutors on the course has always been positive as well as being guided by their years of experience and knowledge is invaluable as a new student. The tutors guided me at a pace that I was comfortable with and often with great patience as well as humour to get myself and the other students through the training. As a result of achieving my barbering qualification, this has offered new opportunities in my current role as a makeup artist and hair stylist. I am now studying Level 2 hairdressing to build on these skills and enhance my knowledge in hairstyling.

I changed career path to study to become an electrician as I found that employers wanted experience when applying for Apprenticeships. The course is very hands on - be prepared to study hard as the theory content quite complex.
“Over the past 2 years, Kingston College has been supportive as I have learnt how tourism plays an important part in the world and grateful for choosing something I love. I am thankful for all the hours I have put in towards my assignments as I now progress towards the next step of my career.”

"Choosing a BTEC allows you to be more hands-on and gain the experience and techniques you will need to get into the media industry. This year I have created a video ‘The Shoes’. We filmed and edited together and it taught us about different camera angles and how to edit together all the different shots to create a sequence. Then we learnt about the film genre ‘Film Noir’ and created our own scene which had the characteristics and would fit into the genre. After film noir we created our own music video to a song of our choice. We had the opportunity to be as creative as possible. Whilst making the music video, we each recorded our own podcast episode on a theme given to us by a client. My theme was how artists can inspire others to be pro-environmental. We are now about to create a single camera drama. Alongside filming all of these units, we have been learning the theory behind film and media and writing our own scripts. I have also been creating digital designs in Photoshop and Illustrator inspired by artists such as Andy Warhol and Banksy. Now we are designing a magazine double page."
“Doing a BTEC was a good choice for me as exams have never been my strong point and I much prefer learning hands on skills. Being able to gain practical experience to apply in future workplaces felt very valuable to me and Kingston College was great at giving me those opportunities to learn.”
Hannah gained D*D*D* the equivalent to 3 A* grades at A Level, giving Hannah the maximum number of UCAS points.

I joined the course as I’d heard from family and friends that Kingston College was the “place to be” to study a Motor Vehicle course. I’m enjoying the course and finding it very informative - I particularly enjoy the practicals. I didn’t manage to come to the College Open Days due to Covid 19 restrictions but I’m really impressed by the very well-equipped Motor Vehicle workshops with all the tools and equipment that you need. When working in the workshop it feels like you are working in a proper garage. All the teaching staff are very helpful.

“I chose Kingston College as it has had a reputation for being a very good college for many years. "I opted for a BTEC as they allow you to specialise in just one subject that you are particularly interested in, unlike with A Levels. My BTEC course allowed me to study the different aspects of business in much more depth. BTECs also allow you to be more independent and take responsibility for your own learning, as you have to complete coursework in your own time. It allows you to be more creative and you can learn so much more as you often do a lot of your own research, helping to expand your knowledge."
Katie achieved Triple Distinction*, the equivalent of 3 A* at A Level, and has begun an Accounting Apprenticeship at Blick Rothenberg.
“I am now doing amazing work which is both heart-breaking and rewarding. I owe it to my Kingston College tutor, Sue Brahams, because if she hadn’t shown me what I was capable of I would not be able to do what I do. Thank you so much for believing in me. You told me I was an exceptional student when I didn’t believe in myself and I will always be grateful. I was so afraid back then – now I lead teams and it’s because you showed me I could. Students need to know their dreams can come true.”
“BTEC courses are very practical and focused on specific skills and knowledge, which I wanted as I prefer hands-on learning. BTEC also tends to have a more flexible structure compared to traditional academic routes, which can be advantageous if, like me, you have other commitments or a particular learning style. I know I will be able to put my music qualification to good use within a primary school setting.”
Katie gained D*D*D*, the highest grade possible and equivalent to 3 A* at A Level giving Katie the maximum number of UCAS points for university. Katie is now studying BA (Hons) Primary Education at St Mary’s University.

Once I left school I knew I wanted to play football and study alongside. Whilst studying my fitness instructor course I was part of the 'Us Girls' scheme and I began leading gym inductions to new gym members. We’re very lucky to have great facilities here, especially the gym. During my final year I completed my Personal Training qualification which helped me gain loads of confidence and I was also part of the PT Academy. I had the opportunity to lead sessions to internal and external clients and was invited to a Royal Bank of Scotland Employability Conference in London where I spoke to students about Personal Training, encouraging them to look into a fitness career.
“All the teachers during my time at college were great! They will push you in the best possible way and help you accomplish the grade you want to achieve. I had an amazing tutor, Lisa Boland, who is very intelligent and knowledgeable. Lisa supported me throughout and got the best out of me and certainly helped me get to where I am today, so I can’t thank her enough. I made a lovely bunch of friends throughout my time here."

“As a mature student, it was daunting going back to college to do a degree but having other students of all ages going through it with you makes it easier.”
“The tutors are so competent, professional and caring. I learned how to make my own natural products on the course and also the practicalities of running my own business. College life was as I expected, just with more independence! My favourite part of my course was the independence I was given to complete my work within a certain time frame.
My advice to anyone applying to Kingston College would be choose something that you have a genuine interest in, not something that you think would just be a good ‘academic option’. What I’ve learnt is that if you have no interest in the topic or subject, the likelihood of you doing well is slim. I transitioned to Kingston College after doing AS levels at sixth form which I struggled with and had no interest in whatsoever. I was then able to perform to my best ability on a vocational course at Kingston College, where I obtained the highest grade possible. I would advise people to also pick a style of learning that suits them, for me, that was a vocational course.
I’m currently seeking work in TV Production and have recently worked on Soccer AM on Sky Sports.
“The course has opened up incredible career possibilities to me and has provided me with the skills and experience I need to ensure I have access to an amazing industry. BTECs require hard work and perseverance which, with help from the teachers at Kingston College, was made enjoyable and rewarding.”
Maddie gained D*D*D*, equivalent to 3 A* grades at A Level, and have secured a job in lighting at Banquet Records as well as continuing their work in the College’s ACT theatre as a technician.

“I had such a great experience of being an Access student at Kingston College, and for me it was a very precious period of time because it increased my level of knowledge and awareness of the importance of my future. The course developed many aspects in my life as I became more independent, patient and knowing how to deal with uncomfortable situations, because there were times where I felt stressed and anxious due to the intensity of the course.
“I am well prepared to start university this year to study Dental Hygiene. The Access course immensely increased my confidence and communication skills with people as it is so important for student life.”

I was also pleasantly surprised to see someone from college here with me at Wolverhampton University."
“I knew that photography was something that I wanted to continue in the future and seeing the welcoming facilities that Kingston College provided, I thought that choosing to study here would extend my knowledge and further develop my skills. Megan achieved Triple Distinction* on her course, the equivalent to 3 A* at a Level.
Pursuing a career in law has always been a dream of mine, hence when the opportunity to attend Kingston College presented itself there was no hesitation on what my decision would be. I am currently enrolled on the Paralegal Apprenticeship CILEx Level 3 course. Thus far, I have been able to handle the challenges thrown at me because I refused to entertain the easy, but on the more rewarding option of not giving up. College life requires you to transfer and build on your work ethics from school life in order to overcome the arduous tasks that arise.
I would say this is a great opportunity for anyone as you will get to see first-hand what it is like to be a paralegal and a student. I have been able to share my studies with a diverse, knowledgeable set of individuals which proved to be very helpful to my own skill set and how I now process information presented to me. I will end by heaping praise on my amazing tutor Susan Shuttle. It is through her guidance that I am able to continue making strides towards success.
Always remember to “strive for progress, not perfection”.
During my time at Kingston College my hard work was always recognised and appreciated by the teachers which also built my confidence. Whenever I needed help with my studies and coursework I found my teacher very supportive and always ready to help.
Kingston College is an excellent institution, the teachers are very knowledgeable and helpful. The teachers at Kingston College are generous and helpful and provide you with the platform to achieve your dreams.
“Throughout the course we had lots of informative talks from a range of protective service personnel including the Army, Police, Fire Service and Border Force. These talks were engaging and helped me learn more about the different career paths within the different services. When I started the course I was certain I wanted to join the Police but through doing this course I have learnt more about the other services and it has opened up my options. All of my tutors have been very supportive and friendly and some of them were previous serving Police Officers which was really helpful.”
Nadine gained Triple Distinction* on her course, the equivalent to 3 A* at A Level.
"The course has made me think in different ways, analyse data and information, plan better and be more self aware."
Pippa King, Lead Nurse for Safer Staffing at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, who graduated with a First Class Honours Degree and Distinction in our Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship
I chose the FdA Early Years as I wanted to become a Primary School Teacher. On completion, I went on to study a BA in Early Years Teaching and Learning at Kingston University, followed by SCITT training. I now work for a lovely school as an Early Years Teacher in the Nursery Class and am so happy with where I am now. While at Kingston College I made life-long friendships and received some amazing learning opportunities, with great support from tutors who made it clear they believed in you. This course will change your life. It transformed mine and I couldn't be happier.
"The three years I studied at Kingston College were the most enjoyable and best years of my life. I never thought that I would study a BSc in Physics when I first enrolled. The best thing, which I still miss and will never forget, is the classroom lessons."
Rafay studied ESOL Horizons Level 1, followed by full-time GCSEs and then Access to Science at Kingston College before heading to University of Kent to study BSc (Hons) Phsyics. Rafay achieved what he “only imagined was possible” a few short years ago.
"I chose to study a Fashion BTEC as I was always interested in the Fashion industry and wanted something more specialised rather than just doing A Levels. This course provided me with the insight into the fashion industry as well giving as me a headstart on the skills and experience I would need for that. There were no limitations to what we could design and produce giving us room to find out our own style. I learnt not only how to design but to construct my own garments using industrial machines and techniques. The course doesn’t only focus on the design and making side of the industry but it also teaches us about marketing in the fashion industry.
Not only has the support given by the College and lecturers helped me find out what I want to do next, they have also helped me plan how to do it."
“The subjects I’m learning assisted my knowledge of the expanding aviation industry, which helped me in my airline pilot scholarship application process and in the interview stage. This gave me the confidence, determination and dedication to astound the selection panel, which led to me being awarded one of the global prestigious scholarships, adding another chapter in my student to Airline pilot story.”
“For me, fashion has no boundaries, expectations or rules; it’s a form of identity through art where there are no wrong answers. This is what inspired me to do a BTEC, I was able to go outside the box with my ideas and explore a range of different media and techniques. With my final grade being determined through my coursework, I could demonstrate my creative abilities practically to my tutors, as well as the other qualities I’ve learnt along the way such as time management and problem solving. I chose Kingston College not only for its remarkable reputation but also for the amount of support and diversity within the college itself.”
Rhenice gained a Triple Distinction* on her course, the equivalent to 3 A* at A Level.

College life is everything I expected, a place with hidden opportunities waiting to come your way. Advice that I would give to others who are thinking about applying for my course is be confident, have patience yet be determined throughout each task and finally have fun, enjoy every experience given to you know matter what it is. All the teachers have given a lot of support; and I’ve received a lot of constructive criticism which was very beneficial.

Former BTEC Sport & Exercise Science student, Tyler Newman, has graduated from St Mary’s University with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Communications & Marketing. Tyler finished his two year BTEC at Kingston College in 2019 gaining D*D*D*, the equivalent of 3 A* at A Level.
“I studied a BTEC and this was a great decision which benefited me massively in obtaining the maximum amount of UCAS points enabling me to get into my preferred university."
I chose the Beauty Therapy course as I want to become a professional in this industry. I had the opportunity to work with clients while studying and this has given me confidence in my workplace.
I now work as a masseuse in a salon and enjoy every day of my job.
“I have loved every second of this course, and I will never forget what these past three years have meant for me. Throughout my studies I have been given new opportunities to produce work, for example exploring new printmaking techniques made me further develop my printmaking skills and become confident with handling equipment and materials. This was all made possible by the incredible staff who helped push my ideas further and helped me develop the skills needed to approach my final major project.”
William gained Triple Distinction* on his course, the equivalent to 3 A* at A Level. He is now studying BA (Hons) Illustration at Kingston University
“At first, I lacked the grades so I took the Level 2 Art and Design course; then continued on to the Level 3 BTEC in Photography where I met the lovely and kind staff who helped me improve my photography. Not only were the tutors great, but they had brilliant work experience connections and I worked at the international Fuse Festival photographing the event.”
Zachary gained Triple Distinction* on his course, the equivalent to 3 A* at A Level.
My favourite part of the course is the practical side of it where we get to create different tools and products. College life I would say is how I anticipated it to be but I have had a few surprises along the way like how much course work is involved and how much effort is involved. I like the opportunity that we are given to be able to work with real engineering companies for a week as work experience. I have a few tutors on my course that I find amazing and I like working with the friends I have made at Kingston College.
Zoey gained Triple Distinction* on her course, equivalent to 3 A* at A Level, and is now studying Criminology and Criminal Justice at University of Leeds. She says: “I had originally started off doing A Levels but decided that a BTEC in Uniformed Protective Services might be better suited to my aspirations of becoming a police officer. I also did not start my BTEC course at Kingston College, I spent my first year at NESCOT College, but I wasn't sure that it was the correct environment for me to fully gain all the support I needed for my education.”
Zuzanna is now studying Health & Human Sciences at Durham University: “Choosing a BTEC course allowed me to gain vital skills and knowledge that I can transfer to my University course. I am thankful for all of the support and motivation I received during my time at Kingston College.”
