We spoke to John Betteridge, who is studying a Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship at Kingston College, about how the course has helped him excel in his position of Director of JVB Solutions, experts in residential and commercial electrical design, installation & maintenance across London and Surrey.
Why did you choose the course?
To gain a better understanding of managerial theory, whilst discussing live working environments with my peers.
What are the most enjoyable aspects or highlights of your course?
Working with the other managers and tutors on the course.
Can you provide examples of any particular achievements or describe how you have overcome any difficulties on your course so far?
Time management has been the biggest issue, especially whilst dealing with Covid. Luckily my company is very supportive of the course and works with me to find the time required.
How have your studies helped you in your current role?
To date I have found the biggest gain to be from Leading and Management of an Organisation, this module was the nearest to my day to day working role, and allowed me to reflect on how best to build a collaborative team derived from positive motivational techniques.
What are your hopes, goals and/or plans for the future?
To continue to grow and learn as a Project Manager and Director. To use the new skills I learn from completing my studies to assist my team and company to achieve the best from every given scenario.
Do you have any advice for other potential students looking to enrol?
The people I have met so far whilst completing my course, both students and tutors have been amazing. I can't recommend the college/university and the course highly enough. As an adult learner who has been out of the academic environment for well over a decade, I have found the move back into education much easier than I expected, this I attribute to everyone involved.
