Level 4 HNC Sport (Sports Events Management Pathway)

South Thames College are delighted to be working in partnership with a large sporting events company on this exciting new course, which will equip learners with the skills and knowledge required to build a rewarding career in the sector.

This programme provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required within the sports events sector. The course is delivered through the Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Sport and includes a Sports Events Management pathway.

The programme is designed to prepare learners for employment in the planning, coordination and delivery of sports events, including mass participation events, community sports events and commercial sporting activities. Learning is applied and contextualised through real-world scenarios that reflect industry practice.

Students will develop a broad understanding of the sports industry alongside the specific requirements of event delivery, including project planning, participant experience, safety considerations and operational coordination. The programme is both practical and academic, supporting learners to develop professional behaviours and critical thinking skills.

The programme has been developed with employer insight ensuring the curriculum reflects industry expectations for large-scale event delivery. Learners will engage with employer-informed activities, case studies and, where possible, work-based opportunities to enhance employability.

Successful candidates may progress to Level 5 Higher National study or into employment within the sport and events sector in roles such as event assistant, operations support or sport development officer.

  • Entry Requirements


    Home student applicants should have at least 40 UCAS points from one A Level, a BTEC Level 3 or equivalent qualification and provide a satisfactory reference.

    International applicants should have at least a High School Leaving Certificate. IELTS 5.5 or equivalent English Language Certificate.

    Students must be 18 or over. Mature students with relevant experience may also be considered. If applicants require further support or advice regarding the application process, they can contact the college, and we will support or advise as required.

  • Course Structure


    The programme is delivered over one academic year.

    Students who successfully complete all the core units, sport units and additional units listed below (totalling 120 credits) are eligible for the award of the Higher National Certificate.

    Sport/Specialist Units: Unit 9 Operational Management & Leadership Unit 8 Sport Marketing Unit 6 Activity Leadership Unit 16 Work Exposure
