This course will teach you skills for working with textiles in a sustainable way. You will learn various mending techniques, making your own fabric trims, quilting, applique and patchwork to give a new lease of life to fabrics that might otherwise be unusable. You will also learn about traditional sustainable textile crafts such as kantha (India) and Boro (Japan).

    By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

    Understand the principles of sustainable textile practice and creative reuse. Apply a range of textile techniques, including mending, patchwork, appliqué, quilting, and fabric embellishment. Transform discarded or unwanted textiles into attractive, functional, and saleable products. Explore traditional sustainable textile crafts and their contemporary applications. Develop original product ideas using reclaimed and upcycled materials. Identify suitable materials and techniques for creating items with commercial appeal. Produce a small collection or prototype of handmade textile products. Understand basic costing and pricing methods for handmade goods.
