Singing for Wellbeing

Singing has long been known to have benefits for both physical and mental health. Studies on singing and wellbeing have reported many positive effects, including improvements to heart and lung function, immunity and memory, as well as reduced levels of stress and anxiety.

In this course, you will explore the connection between singing and wellbeing in a supportive and inclusive environment, learning breathing and vocal exercises, singing together as a group with optional solos, and discussing topics including singing and wellbeing, communication and expression, managing nerves and performance practice.

  • Entry Requirements


    No prior singing experience is required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to participate. Participants will be encouraged to continue developing their skills through further singing classes or community choir opportunities after completing the course.

  • Course Content


    You will learn songs in a range of styles and sing together in unison and harmony, as well as having the opportunity to work on a solo song and receive supportive feedback and advice.

  • Course Structure


    This course is Part 2 of two 5-week Singing for Wellbeing courses:

    Part 1 - TEEX154CL 2425 14 Jan to 11 Feb 2026 Part 2 - TEEX155CL 2425 25 Jan to 25 Feb 2026

    Part 1 will focus on establishing healthy singing techniques, work on breath and singing together with harmonies Part 2 will build on these techniques with a focus on expression and communication

  • Assessment Details


    You will receive:

    *Ongoing verbal feedback from the tutor during sessions to help you refine technique and confidence.

    *Peer feedback in a supportive and constructive environment.

    *A final informal performance (solo or group piece) where you can demonstrate what you have learned.

    There are no formal written assessments or grades; progress is measured through self-reflection, tutor observation, and demonstration of improved vocal ability and performance confidence.
