Introduction to legal terminology: Civil Law
This online course is designed to give interpreters sufficient understanding of areas and procedures of civil law. The course is suitable for community interpreters, DPSI/DPI students and holders as well as other interpreters and translators qualifications.

Course Content
You will gain basic understanding of the civil law courts and procedures, as well as looking more in depth at a sample of areas of civil law, namely: Debt, Wills and Probate, Housing, Family Law and Employment law. The focus is on learning procedures and terminology for the purposes of interpreting and translating,therefore sufficient command of another language is preferrable.
Each session includes topic knowledge, terminology research with some interpreting and translation activities. Please note: classes are delivered by a qualified legal interpreter in English and there is no tuition in other languages.
Assessment consists of in-class ongoing feedback and review of self-evaluation by tutor. -
