Project based short course focused on improving your garment construction and sewing skills. You must have a basic understanding of reading patterns, taking measurements, and basic machine sewing. This course is designed to introduce more advanced sewing techniques to improve your skills and knowledge, so you can confidently complete a garment. Each learner will be working on their own individual project and is responsible for bringing their pattern and all project supplies and materials with them.

Bring your current project or start a new project that day.

Bring a clothing pattern, practice fabric, and your final fabric on day one, along with any threads and supplies you will need.

  • Entry Requirements


    What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

    *Intermediate to advance.

    *You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, handouts, and health and safety information.

    *You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

  • Course Content


    What will we cover?

    Understand the necessary construction and sewing techniques needed to complete their project.

    Demonstrate improved sewing skills.

    Complete a toile or final garment.

    *Tape measure

    *Sharp 2H pencil (preferably mechanical pencils with a 0.5mm or 0.7mm lead)

    *Rubber

    *Sharpener

    *Pattern notchers (optional)

    *French curve or a set square (optional)

    *A4 ring binder

    *A4 plastic wallets x10

    On going assessment and via individual progress records.

    How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

    *Through demonstrations, discussions, workshop practice, one to one instruction, and guidance.

    *You will also be invited to take part in group discussions. All work can be completed during the class.
