Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

This course is designed for students who have already completed a Level 2 motor vehicle qualification. This Level 3 qualification covers the technical needs for today's motor vehicle repair industry including the diagnosis of complex system faults. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots. It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following:

  • Advanced Chassis Technology
  • Advanced Engine Technology
  • Advanced Transmission Technology
  • Advanced Electrical and Electronic Technology Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage. Enrichment Activities - The students will have an opportunity to visit trade shows / exhibitions to liaise with employers and see the latest with employers and see the latest technology in the Motor Industry.
  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other this will include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence-based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference / school report.

    English & maths GSCE at 4/C or above and/or Functional skills English and maths L2, and a Level 2 Motor Vehicle qualification with a min of 3x Merit grades in the online exams: Chassis; Engine, Electrical Transmission; Servicing and Vehicle Inspection.
