L1 Award In Preparing To Work In Schools (NCFE)

This qualification prepares learners for further learning and training whilst developing an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting. It covers areas such as how to support the well-being of a child or young person, and children's development. This qualification is suitable for any learners who are thinking of working in a school setting.

  • Entry Requirements


    You need a good level of spoken and written English. You will be invited to attend an advice and guidance session before starting this course where you will be asked to do a written assessment. You need to have a minimum of Entry 3 level English and writing skills sufficient to enable you to undertake the course.

  • Course Content


    To achieve the Award the learner must complete 3 units. The units covered are:

    • Understand schools as organisations
    • Understand how to keep children healthy, safe and well
    • Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults
  • Progression Next Steps


    Your progression will be to a level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning. However please be aware that progression is not automatic and is dependent on your success at Level 1 and the outcome of your Interview and assessment for the next step.

  • Additional Information


    You do not need to have a teaching placement for a level 1 course, but you will need to get a placement organised if you decide to progress to a level 2

  • Course Structure


    This programme includes 2 qualifications which are linked:

    *Level 1, 'Award in Preparing to work in Schools' level 1 and 'NCFE Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties Level 2'

    You need to complete both parts of the programme.

  • Assessment Details


    Classroom assessment will take place throughout all sessions with tasks and activities and classwork to check your learning.

    The summative assessment will be a completed portfolio of work which will be assessed by your teacher and verified by an external assessor.
