Mapped directly to the IfATE Carpentry and Joinery Occupational Standard (ST0095), this qualification ensures you're developing the exact competencies employers expect. You'll build a strong foundation in construction principles, health and safety, and sustainability, while spending most of your time mastering real carpentry and joinery operations, from first fix to second fix, structural carcassing, setting out, and using professional power tools and machinery.
By the end of the course, you'll have the confidence and capability to step into employment, progress into a Level 3 apprenticeship, or continue your technical training. Entry Requirements
Following application, we will invite you to an Applicants Event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.4 x GCSEs at D/3 or above, or a Level 1 qualification in a relevant subject. Your GCSE profile must include either maths and /or English, or a Functional Skills qualification in maths and/or English.

Course Content
This immersive, practical qualification gives you a complete introduction to modern carpentry and joinery. Across a blend of workshop-based learning, classroom sessions, and project work, you will study topics including: Core Construction KnowledgeConstruction Health and Safety -Construction Information, Quantities and Communications -Construction Principles -Employment in the Construction Industry -Environmental Awareness and Sustainability -Personal Skills and Wellbeing in Construction
Specialist Carpentry & Joinery Skills Depending on your chosen pathway (Site Carpentry or Architectural Joinery), you will develop essential trade skills such as: Site Carpentry (example units):
-First Fix Operations -Second Fix Operations -Structural Carcassing -Preparing and using carpentry and joinery portable power tools
Architectural Joinery (example units): -Setting up and operating cutting and shaping machinery -Producing setting‑out details for routine joinery products -Marking out from setting‑out details -Manufacturing standard joinery products
Optional Additional Units Learners may also extend their skills with optional units such as:

Assessment Details
Assessment is designed to reflect real industry expectations and includes a mix of externally set assessments, practical observations, and project-based assignments. Assessment Methods Include:-Multiple-choice online knowledge tests for units such as: Construction Health and Safety Construction Principles
-Project Assessments for units covering communication, wellbeing, sustainability, and employment. -Observed Practical Assessments for all trade‑based skills. Your performance will be graded on: accuracy and quality of your practical work safe use of tools and equipment meeting professional tolerances underpinning knowledge questions
Each practical unit can be awarded Pass, Distinction, or Not Achieved, with clear criteria provided. Internally assessed components may allow for one resubmission, while some tests and practical tasks must be completed under supervised conditions.
Your overall qualification grade is based on the total marks you achieve across all components.
