Harriet has held a variety of teaching and management roles in Further and Higher Education, having started her FE teaching career at Kingston College. She was a teacher educator at the University of Greenwich for 7 years and then one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) for 10 years, specialising in Further Education, teacher training and Higher Education. She is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her research interests focus on teaching excellence, and her book on outstanding teaching, based on inspection evidence, has been widely used to inform continuing professional development in the FE sector.
Since operating on a freelance basis, Harriet has undertaken a range of projects to develop teaching and learning, either directly with institutions, or most often through the Education and Training Foundation, Association of Colleges and UCL Institute of Education. As such, she combines different professional activities: teacher, critical friend, mentor, advisor, researcher and author. In 2023 she was appointed as a governor at STCG.
