Elected Staff Governor
Jonathan works as a Sport & Exercise Science Lecturer/Team Leader for South Thames Colleges Group (Kingston College) delivering Further Education to BTEC Level 2 and 3 students, and Higher Education on the Higher National Certificate/Diploma at level 4 and 5. He has been in this role since August 2024, having been a lecturer since 2020. His main areas of teaching are Science-based units with an emphasis on Physiology and Research - his current, main focus of research is centred around the link between critical thinking and student belonging.
Jonathan was a student at Carshalton College when he was 23, after dropping out of college at the age of 16 and going into office management. He realised that he needed qualifications to progress in a career and build a better future. Since going back to education as a mature student, he never looked back. Jonathan retook GCSE English and Maths, gained top grades in a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science level 3 and his lecturers inspired him to go to university, which he thought impossible when restarting college. Jonathan graduated from the University of Winchester with a BSc/MSc in Sports Science and subsequently completed a Level 5 DET and QTLS at the London School of Business Sciences.
Jonathan has since completed other qualifications (Level 2 Door Supervision, Korfball and Boccia coaching badges etc.) and been a lecturer for 8 years. He completed an MA in Educational Leadership at the University of Roehampton in 2025 and has qualified as an Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist for the Chartered Association for Sport and Exercise Science (CASES). In addition, Jonathan has become a Chartered Scientist for the Science Council and a Foundation Chartered Manager for the Chartered Management Institute.
His interests are films of various genres - mainly Sci-fi, Marvel or Horror, walks with his two dogs (Husky/Malamute cross and a Golden Retriever), and motorcycling - he owns a Yamaha R1 and ZX10r.
