Electric and Hybrid Vehicles are ushering in a new era of clean, environmentally friendly transportation.

By using lithium-ion batteries instead of combustion engines powered by fossil fuels, vehicles reduce the amount of pollution and toxins released into our atmosphere and are an important step on our journey towards Net Zero*.

South Thames Colleges Group is developing a range of green skills courses to respond to the growth in the green economy which will create millions of new and different jobs globally.

This bespoke two-week course is designed specifically for adults who wish to upskill or change career. The course will introduce and navigate the new ecosystem of technologies and challenges that cover Electric Vehicles (EV) plus, an introduction to Green Skills, an Employability and Customer Service award, working in the Green Industry and optional online units:

The impact of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles on the environment.

  • Introduction to EVs and electricity.
  • Car batteries and charger types.
  • Health and Safety of electricity, chargers and regulations.
  • Installing EV chargers at home.
  • Commercial installation of EV chargers.
  • The challenge of creating EV charge point infrastructures.
  • EV, charge points and the race to Net Zero.

Plus, a final online assessment of 30 Multiple choice questions (for those who wish to receive a digital credential from City and Guilds).

NCFE Level 2 in Understanding Climate Change and Environmental Awareness 

(Online flexible learning)

This course covers:

  • Climate change, sustainability and
    environmental protection. 
  • The role of industry in protecting the environment.
  • Resource efficiency and waste management. 
  • How to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. 
  • Water efficiency.

The global energy crisis is driving a surge in the demand for heat pumps, bringing energy security and climate benefits. The UK government aims to increase heat pump installations to 600K per year by 2028.*

South Thames Colleges Group is developing a range of green skills courses to respond to the growth in the green economy which will create millions of new and different jobs globally.

This course is suitable if you have an interest in sustainable technologies and wish to develop the skills necessary for a career in the Green Skills industry, particularly those learning or working in engineering, plumbing, construction and multi-skills.
The programme will introduce the theory, concepts and the science behind heat source pumps.

Course Content

  • An Introduction to Green Skills, and an employability Customer Service Award.
  • Introduction to heat source pumps, domestic heating and hot water.
  • How heat source pumps work.
  • In-depth look at air source heat pumps.
  • In-depth look at ground and water source
    heat pumps.
  • The basics of installing heat source pumps.
  • Post installation and commissioning.

Learners who complete the programme are awarded a digital credential from City & Guilds, which states that they understand different types of heat pumps, how they work and how they are installed.
