Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning
This is a nationally-recognised qualification designed to meet the national standards for teaching assistants. The course is suitable for people who are just starting their careers as teaching assistants or who have just started to volunteer in a school setting. This qualification will enable learners to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in primary, secondary or special schools.
It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people's development, supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs and communication and professional relationships

Entry Requirements
You can apply for this course on the website. You will then be invited to attend and Advice and Guidance and Assessment session where you will receive information about the course you have applied for and be asked to sit a written assessment. This is to establish your level of English which needs to be Level 1 or above. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.You'll need a voluntary or paid teaching support placement of six hours a week or more for the whole of your course.
You'll need to arrange this before you enrol. It can be in a primary or secondary school but not a nursery.

Progression Next Steps
You can progress on the the Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualifications. However, please be aware that you will be required to take an interview for the level 2 course and progression is dependent on your success at interview. -

Please be aware that it can take time to organise a volunteer placement, so give yourself plenty of time to get this set up. -

Assessment Details
You will need to have a placement for 6 hours per week in a school working with children in year 1 or above. It will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This will include direct observation in the workplace, written assignments or tasks.
