L1 Award In Preparing To Work In Adult Social Care
The Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care is a qualification providing a basic awareness for learners who want to work in this sector. It is ideal for learners eligible for employment, adult returners or those undergoing a career change and who may want to understand more about working in health and social care. This course will also include an option to enrol on level 2 Certificate in Understanding Adult Social Care following an assessment and recommendation from the teacher.

Entry Requirements
You need a good level of spoken and written English. You will be invited to attend an advice and guidance session before starting this course where you will be asked to do a written assessment. You need to have a minimum of Entry 3 level English and writing skills sufficient to enable you to undertake the level 1 course. -
Course Content
This qualification is only aimed at learners interested in working in adult social care in England. It aims to introduce you to some basic concepts of caring for adults which are essential within this sector including the knowledge around the following areas:- The adult social care sector
- Values and principles
- Skills and attitudes
- Communication
- Role of the adult social care worker

Progression Next Steps
This qualification does not qualify you to work but does provide a starting point for deciding whether a career in the sector is right for you. You can progress to the Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care or the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care. There are lots of opportunities available to you to progress across the South Thames Colleges Group and into the world beyond education. -
Course Structure
This programme is a face-to-face course once a week for 3 hours. There is an option to progress to a level 2 course following an assessment and recommendation from the teacher. -
Assessment Details
Classroom assessment will take place throughout all sessions with tasks and activities and classwork to check your learning.The summative assessment will be a completed portfolio of work which will be assessed by your teacher and verified by an external assessor.
