Essential Digital Skills - Excel For Beginners

This course provides a supportive environment for people who have no or very little experience of Microsoft Excel. The course is also suitable for people who have some experience of Excel but lack confidence. This course will teach you the fundamentals.

Your tutor will provide a mini-booklet with explanations and exercises for you to complete in class and take away. There will be a blend of computer-based exercises, theory, discussions, group and pair work. You are invited to ask questions at any time.

  • Introductory Course Info HE


    This course introduces you to the core features of Microsoft Excel. You'll learn how to enter data, format spreadsheets, use simple formulas and create clear, professional documents for work or personal use.

  • Entry Requirements


    You will need some basic experience of using a computer, for example creating and saving files. You will also need a willingness to have a go at some simple maths. No previous Excel experience required.

    • Use key terms e.g. ribbon, row, column, cell
    • Use correct data formats e.g. number, text, date, currency
