Essential Digital Skills - Beginners

This course will further build your confidence using a computer through guided step-by-step teaching. This course is part of our non-accredited Essential Digitals Skills offer, designed to explore MS Office tools, including creating, editing, and organising content in tables as well as a range of common tools to create a variety of documents.

NOTE: You will need to set-up MFA (Multi Factor Authentication ) to use the College computers. Please bring your mobile phone to class to support the process.

    In today's digital world, basic tech skills are essential—but not everyone has had the chance to learn them. This beginner-friendly course helps you take that first step. Whether you want to use the skill to, apply for jobs, or do practical tasks at home, you'll gain the confidence to use spreadsheets safely and independently.

    Delivered in a welcoming environment, this course is perfect for anyone who wants to feel more connected, capable, and in control of their digital life.

  • Entry Requirements


    No prior digital experience required but some basic skills will be beneficial. Suitable for beginners and those returning to learning *Basic literacy and numeracy recommended

  • Course Content


    Essential Digital Skills:

    • Using the tools in Microsoft office tools to customise documents
    • Storing data – save the document on OneDrive and Dropbox
    • Introduction to create a simple Microsoft Office Document, formatting spreadsheet, edit contents, use quick access toolbar
    • Insert headers and footers, insert page break, insert a table, formatting the table, change page orientation within a document

  • Assessment Details


    You will complete individual practical tasks in class using a computer. There will be class discussions to help you understand and share ideas, and you will do some work in pairs or small groups. There will be homework assignments where access to your own connected device eg. Laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone would be a benefit.
