You'll learn the skills to create both traditional and contemporary embroidery.

  • Entry Requirements


    This course is suitable for complete beginners or those with some prior experience. A general sewing kit with needles, threads and scissors, graph paper, dressmakers carbon paper, ruler and fabric pen. A small check gingham fabric will be useful but not essential.

  • Course Content


    This course is ideal for anyone interested in creative textile design, embroidery and handcrafted textiles. It focuses on hand embroidery and hand stitching techniques and covers decorative and traditional needlework such as shadow work, broderie anglais, ribbon embroidery and fabric manipulation techniques.

    The tutor: Bonita Ahuja studied textile design at UAL Chelsea College of Art, graduating with a First Class Honours. She has been working as a professional textile artist/ designer since 2004, specialising in hand woven and hand embroidered fabrics.

    Alongside running her own textile practice, Bonita has been teaching creative embroidery and textile related courses for over 14 years. Her teaching style marries contemporary design with ancient textile traditions, laying emphasis on creativity, learning through experimentation and development of individual style.
