This Clothes Making Advanced Skills course is designed to support learners, who have a solid foundation of sewing, to challenge themselves with more advanced projects. This course will focus on improving existing sewing techniques and learning new techniques to create more complex garments, such as a tailored jacket.

    This course will cover advanced garment construction techniques. Learners can choose a garment to challenge themselves, such as a jacket or dress. Learn how to

    Attach tailored sleeves for jackets Fit garments and adjust patterns Sew with piping and bias binding Create buttonholes, button loops and insert zippers Hand Sewing techniques for a high-quality finish Make clothes including tops skirts, trousers, jackets and dresses, using advanced techniques

    TABX263TL (2526) - Clothes Making Skills (T3D). This course will provide you with a foundation of skills needed on a fashion, clothes making or sewing course. You can further your knowledge by taking another course at the College.

    The course is held on the 2nd floor sewing room 223. 9 sessions at Tooting Centre 10:00 to 12:30 on Tuesday

    Pattern notchers (optional) Dressmaker's Chalk (optional) Tracing wheels (optional) French curve (optional) A4 binder or folder Notebook or binder with paper Pattern (your own or store-bought)

  • Course Structure


    There will be individual and group tuition, with teacher led discussions and demonstrations. Each learner is responsible for choosing their own project and purchasing the patterns, materials and trims to work with.

    Teacher feedback, individual learning plans, student and peer self-assessment.

  • Teaching and Learning


    Learning takes place through a mix of demonstrations, guided practice, and individual project work. You will have the opportunity to plan and create your own projects under the guidance of an experienced tutor. There will be time in each session for discussion, feedback, and developing your practical techniques.
