BTEC Public/Protective Services student, Matthew Wolan, has gained a brilliant Triple Distinction* (D *D*D *) on his course (the equivalent of 3 A*s at A Level).
Matthew says: “When I was choosing my courses for college I wasn’t interested in A Level but more in BTEC because I personally prefer that BTEC is more practical and coursework than exams. I chose Kingston College because when I came for the Open Events the feeling I got was very positive. I was impressed by how many different opportunities and career paths that Kingston offers to the students.
“After completing my course I plan to go to Bournemouth University to do a BSc (Hons) Forensic Science.
“My favourite part of the course is the practical side. We had the chance to apply the skills that we learn and put them into practice, like when we went on an expedition to Richmond Park and Bushy Park, and we also visited the Houses of Parliament. I also really enjoyed that the course had opportunities for students to go to places like Police Stations and Fire Stations to see first-hand what the public services personnel do.
“One piece of advice I would give when thinking about applying for this course is just have fun. Make friends and experience the opportunities that no other courses would give you.
“The tutors are so supportive. They are always there if you need them. They work really hard to make the lessons fun and interactive as well as help you to challenge yourself to push further than you thought you could. I also really enjoyed that all the students on my course were really friendly and supported each other even in the beginning when no one really knew anyone.”
