Meet Paige who is studying a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Education.
Why did you choose to enrol/study at Carshalton College?
I chose to study my degree with Carshalton College as I had previously completed my Level 3 at the college, and it was convenient for me to commute to. The flexibility of the degree fits around my work schedule and personal life which meant I could carry on earning a wage and completing a degree at the same time.
Why did you choose your particular course?
Studying early childhood education has been a passion of mine since leaving school; that is why I have continued to study in the subject. I have always wanted to progress in my professional development and further my understanding on child development. Therefore, I chose to study the early childhood education degree with Carshalton college and having access to Roehampton university library was a bonus too!
What was your first impression of the College?
When I first started the course all the staff members were very welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable.
What was the most enjoyable aspect of course?
The most enjoyable aspect of the course was the discussions and debates we would have during class. Everyone on the course shared differing viewpoints and it was lovely to hear different perspectives on subjects.
How did you find the teaching and level of support from tutors?
The teaching and level of support from the tutors were amazing. They all were very helpful at tutorials and were always on hand to answer any questions throughout each module. The tutors go above and beyond for the students at Carshalton College.
How did you manage to fit in the study around your work and family life?
I won’t lie, fitting in the coursework around work and my personal life have been hard and exhausting but if you manage your time and complete all the tasks throughout each module, you will stay on track.
How did the course help you in your workplace setting?
This course has helped me to develop my own pedagogical approaches to early years and has change my whole perspective on early year's environments. The different international perspectives and theories have ensured my professional development and encouraged me to share my knowledge with colleagues to create an all-round wholesome and knowledgeable early years workforce.
What are your goals/plans for the future or your next study/career options?
After finishing the degree, I will be going on the complete my PGCE teacher training at Roehampton University and hope to eventually specialise in SEND or become SENCO.
Do you have any advice for other potential students looking to enrol on your course?
My advice to any potential students would be, go for it! The overall course is brilliant, and you will finish the course feeling like a different, more knowledgeable person to when you started! Just remember to manage your time well and do not leave things to the last minute.
