The Mayor of Merton, Cllr Sally Kenny, visited Merton College last week to judge a competition for the best decorated gift bags, as part of the students' 'Christmas Gift Campaign' for the elderly in our community.
Students across Merton and Carshalton Colleges have been running the campaign, which has involved students and staff fundraising, collecting item donations and sourcing support and goods from the local community. The Mayor met with a group of Supported Learning students who had decorated 200 gift bags, with nine creations making the final. After much deliberation, three winners, were selected and all recieved vouchers to spend over Christmas.
The Mayor also met with our Catering & Hospitality students who had baked 800 cookies and she expressed how delighted she was to have visited the College and met with students who had put time and effort into helping others during the festive season.
