“I joined Carshalton College to study Carpentry. I had heard about the College through word of mouth, and it was my closest college.

I chose Carpentry as I wanted to work in Construction and learn about how buildings were made and the process of constructing houses. Of all the construction courses, Carpentry seemed the least messy!

My first impression of the college was that it was big but now not so much as I know my way around. Initially I found some of the tasks quite intimidating, but over time they became easier.

The most enjoyable part of the courses for me has been the meticulous measuring and planning that goes into carpentry. I also enjoy using the chisels and tools. Surprisingly, cutting recesses for hinges is therapeutic and really relaxing.

The tutors are great and help whenever is needed. Throughout my college experience the tutors have really shown a great deal of care and consideration about my progress.

I completed my work experience at the College, I am now a Workshop Assistant for the Construction team at Carshalton College”.

Kasey’s tutors, Zoe and Daren had this to say:

Kasey was always a dedicated learner, punctual and enthusiastic throughout Levels 1, 2 and 3. He is always willing to assist and help others and uses the knowledge he has gained throughout the years to inspire our students. After completing his Level 3 Carpentry course, he left college wanting to gain some site experience.

When the role of Workshop Assistant became available, we recruited Kasey to fulfil this role. He has worked very well with all levels of learners and has gained a lot of confidence within himself and his abilities to communicate positively with our students and staff at the college”.
