We are pleased to announce that the South Thames College’s group Prince’s Trust programme based at Carshalton College

was awarded a Grade 1 in its recent inspection! 

The College has run the Team programme in partnership with Prince’s Trust since 1997. During that period at Carshalton College:

  • 99 young people aged 16-25 have completed the programme.
  • We achieved an 86% retention rate.
  • In 2018-19 67% young people went onto a positive outcome (employment, education or training)
  • Inspection framework for Grade 1; “Exceeds expectations defined by minimum standards and performance targets, requires minimal support.”

Programme Aims

The Prince’s Trust Team is a full-time 12-week personal development programme which aims to increase confidence, motivation and skills and as a result enables young people to move into employment, education, training, volunteering or an apprenticeship.

Some of the key features of the Team programme:

  • It is a challenging, structured 12-week programme
  • It entails teamwork on real projects in the local community and individual work placements
  • It culminates in each Team presenting its achievements to an invited audience and receiving their End of Programme Certificates
  • Personal development takes place throughout by the process of planning, action and review
  • Through building their confidence and motivation, young people are encouraged to think about their futures

During the programme young people:

  • uncover hidden talents
  • assume some responsibility for tasks o develop team-working and communication skills
  • gain awareness of their local community and how they can contribute to it, and
  • gain nationally recognised qualifications.

  • 89% of young people completing Leaver Questionnaires said that their residential trip was very useful or useful to them.
  • 99% of young people completing Leaver Questionnaires said that they felt that the Community Project had been very useful or useful to them.
  • 95% of young people completing Leaver Questionnaires said that their work placements had been very useful or useful to them.
  • 93% of young people completing Leaver Questionnaires said that their time on the Team Programme had helped them to decide what they wanted to do in the future with the majority hoping to move onto further college courses.
  • 95% of young people completing Leaver Questionnaires said that their Team Challenges had been very useful or useful for them.
  • 95% of young people completing Leaver Questionnaires said that their Final Presentation was very useful or useful for them.
  • 91% of young people completing Leaver Questionnaires said that there was someone to help them with their reading and writing if they needed it.
