On Thursday February 10 1972, David Bowie took his first steps as Ziggy Stardust on the tiny stage of The Toby Jug pub at Tolworth on the official opening night of what became a 17-month world tour for Ziggy and the Spiders from Mars. Exactly 50 years to the day of the original gig, we celebrate this momentous evening that has influenced music, fashion, design and sexuality and continues to do so today.
The Community Brain, a Tolworth-based not-for-profit organisation
To mark this occasion The Community Brain is declaring Thursday 10 February 2022, as #ZiggyReturns and hosting a Bowie-inspired family-friendly fun in Tolworth and at London Waterloo stations. Carrying on from this grand opening event, Kingston College Creative Industries is working in collaboration with The Community Brain to host an exhibition of Bowie infused art at the Tolworth Broadway Bar 24-26 February. Three of our Art & Design groups are currently busy working on their pieces for this exciting event!!

Creating sculptures in wood inspired by David Bowie
Level 3 3D Design students are creating two large free-standing wooden sculptures and giant tickets relating to Bowie’s Tolworth concert in 1972. This work will be bright and glamourous like Bowie himself.
