Fine Art: Drawing, Painting And Watercolour - Beginners and Improvers
The course is for everyone regardless of ability or experience and will be tailored to suit individual's current levels. I especially welcome beginner artists and will support learners to achieve visual results beyond their expectations. Over the 10 weeks you will learn about drawing (and toning skills) following the grid method. Your tutor will explain and demonstrate how to implement the grid method in your approach to drawing and there will be practise exercises before you undertake a drawing of your choice, based on your own personal ability level and area of interest regarding genre. In the doing of this you will have learnt how to scale up a picture and enlarge from its original size. The grid method is a technique that has been used for centuries in art that involves dividing an image into a series of smaller, more manageable sections using a grid framework. Once your drawing is completed, you will be guided as to which tonal and mark making techniques complement your idea, introducing light and dark shading range to complete the piece of art. There is also an option to transfer your drawing onto canvas and develop your skills using water-based colour media. This is a supportive, enjoyable course designed to challenge any doubts you may have about your creative ability. You'll see tangible progress and results that prove artistic skill can be learned and developed — not just something you're "born with."

Course Content
Course Aims By the end of the course, you will have gained an understanding of grid drawing as a technique and understand how to create a tonal range, mastering acute observational skills; demonstrated by at least one completed and toned drawing or painting.Course Objectives To practise grid and tonal skill exercises in preparation for at least one finished grid drawing whereby you will observe acute drawing skills to accurately enlarge a chosen picture to A3 size and tone or paint effectively.

Course Structure
Learners will be tutored and guided as to how to look at line, shape, space and form within a drawing using a grid to help identify these elements of art to enable more precise and focused looking and seeing. It is a matter of practising hand/ eye coordination and having an honest and discerning dialogue with yourself and the tutor as to precision and accuracy of your observational skills and drawn translation. You will also develop a range of tonal and mark making skills and the suitability of different pencil gradients to shade your drawing to bring out contrast, pattern, texture, perspective and depth for example. Alternatively, you could transfer your drawing onto canvas and develop a painting using water-based media of choice. -
Assessment Details
Your tutor will support you individually and as a group with an element of peer support in place too. Assessments will take place via one to one and group discussion, questions and answers, homework, research, critique of completed work and feedback forms.
