The course is for everyone regardless of ability or experience and will be tailored to suit individual's current levels. This course is all about enjoyment and growth. There is no pressure to be perfect only to explore, learn, and express yourself. This course is designed to provide you with creative freedom as to how you wish to express yourself with creative media, with a choice of assignments in place to guide you through the creative journey and its variable creative outcomes over a 10-week period. 26 project ideas have been designed with a wide range of creative genres covered from traditional art subjects to more abstract and imaginative ideas, so there should be something for everyone to visually explore and investigate!! The projects have planning and research guidance in the form of sketchbook ideas, support as to which elements and principles of art could be utilised and artists to refer to for inspiration and muse. From these outcomes a main project is outlined with visual imagery to help your creative journey. An alternative idea for main artwork is also provided for you to consider if needed. The overall outcome of this course is to produce a body of artwork by practising and developing your creative skills, experimenting with new techniques and ideas and be inspired not only from your own creative journey but that of your peers too in a supportive, creative and friendly environment!

  • Course Content


    Course Aims To gain an understanding of researching and planning a piece of artwork by using different creative techniques, experimenting with ideas and the use of visual tools applied in forming artwork.

    Course Objectives By the end of this course, you will have visually demonstrated how to form a piece of artwork, apply creative skills and use visual tools such as a sketchbook to develop and inform your practise.

    Please bring A3 paper pad (100-140gms) Sketchbook Drawing media (HB pencil) Eraser/ putty rubber Sharpener Choice of colour media as preferred Masking tape

  • Course Structure


    Learners will be tutored and guided as to how to imaginatively interpret their chosen project outline and plan their creative journey from research and sketchbook ideas and utilising to formulate your main creative idea. You will be taught about how the elements and principles of art (e.g. line, shape, form, colour, texture, unity, balance, perspective, proportion, etc.) help to form a piece of creative work alongside researching and learning about relevant artists from art history can inspire your creative thought process. You will develop basic drawing skills during this course as well as being encouraged to experiment with a variety of media.

  • Assessment Details


    Your tutor will support you individually and as a group with an element of peer support in place too. Assessments will take place via one to one and group discussion, questions and answers, homework, research, critique of completed work and feedback forms.
