Level 2 NewStart VRQ Diploma in Ladies Hairdressing (19+ years)
This course offers the opportunity to develop skills in hairdressing, providing the foundation for a range of work opportunities in an industry that is both interesting and varied. Students will learn cutting techniques on training head blocks and watch expert demonstrations including from the Headmasters Artistic Team. Students will deconstruct steps of haircuts, complete theoretical coursework and exams before transitioning from head blocks onto real clients in our Headmasters salon. There will be a focus on techniques such as creative cutting and styling techniques to creative colouring applications using L'Oreal Professional products. Students will also develop critical skills such as communication, teamwork and customer service to support their progression to the next level or into employment.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must be 19+We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
3 x GCSE's at any grade including Maths and English and/or relevant vocational equivalent.
Don't have any formal qualifications? Don't worry, let us know and we can assess you to ensure you will be able to achieve well on the course.
You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other to include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference/school report.

Course Content
This qualification covers all the core skills and knowledge to equip you to seek employment or further training within the hairdressing industry. The skills you will learn include services such as shampooing, conditioning, styling, dressing and setting hair, cutting and colouring.Course Content:
- Working in the hair industry
- Follow health and safety practice in the salon
- Client consultation for hair services
- Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
- Promote products and services to clients in a salon
- Cut women's hair
- Colour and lighten hair
- Perm and neutralise Hair
- The art of dressing hair
- Plaiting and twisting
- Display stock to promote sales in salon
- Salon reception duties
- Cutting men's hair
- Create an image based on a theme
All students receive tutorial guidance and are set personal targets to ensure satisfactory progress on the course.

Progression Next Steps
This qualification is an intermediate level, where some experience in developing skills may still be required. In order to develop a wider skill set, we recommend progressing onto a Level 2 Barbering certificate which would widen your career choices before undertaking a Level 3 Hairdressing or Barbering qualification. A clear disciplinary record is required. This qualification could also lead you to an apprentice as a Hair Professional.There are lots of opportunities available to you to progress across the South Thames Colleges Group and into the world beyond education.

Additional Information
One year, delivery is 2/3 days a week. This is to include a minimum of 150 hours must also be gained working in our College Headmasters Academy salon.All learners will receive tutorial guidance and are set personal targets to ensure satisfactory progress on the course. Learners will need to purchase their own kit and uniform for practical lessons. To be awarded candidates are assessed during practical 'on the job' situations.
