Level 2 Certificate in Ladies Hairdressing (16-18 years)

This course offers the opportunity to develop skills in hairdressing, providing the foundation for a range of work opportunities in an industry that is both interesting and varied. Students will also develop critical skills such as communication, teamwork and customer service, to support their progression to the next level or into employment.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    4 x GCSE's at D/3 or above, or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject.

    Your GCSE profile must include either maths and / or English , or a Functional Skills qualification in maths and / or English.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other to include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference/school report.

  • Course Content


    This qualification covers all the core skills and knowledge to equip you to seek employment or further training within the hairdressing industry. The skills you will learn include services such as shampooing, conditioning, styling, dressing and setting hair, cutting and colouring. Mandatory units:

    • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp.
    • Colour and lighten hair.
    • Client consultation for hair services
    • The art of dressing hair
    • Cut Ladies hair
    • Follow health & safety practice in the salon
    • Working in the hair industry
    • Salon reception duties All students receive tutorial guidance and are set personal targets to ensure satisfactory progress on the course.
  • Progression Next Steps


    This qualification is an intermediate level, where some experience is developing skills may still be required. In order to develop a wider skill set, we recommend progressing onto a Level 2 Barbering certificate which would widen your career choices before undertaking a Level 3 Hairdressing or Barbering qualification. A clear disciplinary record is required. This qualification could also lead you to an apprentice as a Hair Professional.

  • Additional Information


    One year, up to 3 - 4 days a week in College, plus one day a week work experience in a salon. A minimum of 150 hours must also be gained working in our College Headmasters Academy salon.

    All learners will receive tutorial guidance and are set personal targets to ensure satisfactory progress on the course. Learners will need to purchase their own kit and uniform for practical lessons. Candidates are assessed during practical 'on the job' situations.
