BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Esports

The Esports industry is currently demonstrating huge growth. This course has been designed to enable students to learn and develop the required skills and knowledge needed to progress onto University or into employment in this exciting industry. The qualification is endorsed by the British Esports Association as being suitable for students wanting to work in the industry.

This one-year full-time course provides an in-depth study of the sector, supporting progression to a higher level and employment in key areas of the industry such as: Coaching, Health and Fitness in the Esports industry, Enterprise and Creativity, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Esports Events, Practical Gaming, Gaming Citizenship, Personal and Professional Development along with an understanding and appreciation of the positive benefits of Esports.

The emphasis is on the development of skills needed to be successful in the Esport industry, including entrepreneurship, innovation, teamwork, communication, leadership skills, confidence building, decision-making, reaction times, reading comprehension skills, cyber skills, dexterity and concentration.

Students who do not have English/Maths GCSE at C/4 will have the opportunity to study English and maths alongside their programme.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other to include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference/school report.

    For admission on to the Extended Certificate or Diploma pathway (2 x A-level equivalent over two years)

    4 x GCSEs at C/4 or above, or a Level 2 Certificate / Extended Certificate or above, at Merit or above, in a relevant subject.

    You will have gained either English and/or maths at GCSE 4/C or above or L2 Functional skills English and/or maths.

  • Course Content


    The Level 3 Extended Certificate in Esports is made up of four different units all of which will be delivered and completed in the Academic Year. A variety of assessment methods will be used including practical work and case studies. Units covered may include:

    • Introduction to Esports
    • Esports Skills, Strategies and Analysis
    • Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in the Esports Industry -Health, Wellbeing and Fitness for Esports Players -Students will also undertake a period of work placement.

    Students will take part in the British Esport Student Champs competition.

  • Progression Next Steps


    The qualification is aimed at learners who want to progress to employment in the Esports industry, possibly via an apprenticeship, or who may aspire to enter higher education. This means that it will be recognised by employers and will support entry into the industry in a range of roles. When combined with other Level 3 qualifications, this qualification also offers learners the opportunity to progress to a broad range of higher education programmes, including bachelor degrees. Successful completion of the Level 3 Extended Certificate could lead to progress onto the Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Esports.
