Level 3 BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Esports

The Esports industry is currently demonstrating huge growth. This course has been designed to enable students to learn and develop the required skills and knowledge needed to progress onto University or into employment in this exciting industry. The qualification is endorsed by the British Esports Association as being suitable for students wanting to work in the industry.

This one-year full-time course provides an in-depth study of the sector, supporting progression to a higher level and employment in key areas of the industry such as: Coaching, Health and Fitness in the Esports industry, Enterprise and Creativity, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Esports Events, Practical Gaming, Gaming Citizenship, Personal and Professional Development along with an understanding and appreciation of the positive benefits of Esports.

The emphasis is on the development of skills needed to be successful in the Esport industry, including entrepreneurship, innovation, teamwork, communication, leadership skills, confidence building, decision-making, reaction times, reading comprehension skills, cyber skills, dexterity and concentration.

This qualification is equivalent to 1 1/2 A Levels, which means that when you have finished the course you may choose to go into full time employment. However, the natural progression is onto the Year 2 Extended Diploma in Esports . If topping up into year two, most students progress to university to study a range of Sports. Universities now offer a degree in Esports including Roehampton and Northampton University.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other to include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference/school report.

    4 x GCSE's at C/4 or above, or a Level 2 Certificate / Extended Certificate or above, at Merit or above, in a relevant subject.

    You will have gained either English and/or maths at GCSE C/4 or above or L2 Functional skills. If you do not have the appropriate level of English and maths for the Foundation Diploma, we can offer the Certificate route where you can study English/maths alongside your Esport programme.

  • Course Content


    The Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Esports is made up of a mix of mandatory and optional units all of which will be delivered and completed in the Academic Year. A variety of assessment methods will be used including practical work and case studies.

    Units covered may include:

    Introduction to Esports

    Esports Skills, Strategies and Analysis

    Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in the Esports Industry

    Health, Wellbeing and Fitness for Esports Players

    Students will also undertake a period of work placement and take part in the British Esports student champs competition..
