L1 Diploma in Construction Skill

Our Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skill course with City & Guilds allows learners to gain theory and practical knowledge relating to the following trades.

  • Carpentry
  • Bricklaying
  • Plumbing This Level 1 Diploma will give you a solid foundation to each trade and gives you the opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of each throughout the year.
  • Entry Requirements


    This course is focused towards learners who did not achieve grade 4 or above in their GCSE's, Including Maths and English.

  • Course Content


    There will be a combination of practical and theory sessions which will enable you to gain good practical skills with underpinning job knowledge of each trade (Carpentry, Plumbing and Bricklaying). A great deal of the work produced involves you using hand tools and materials from each trade. You will work towards achieving 5 units of competence throughout the year.

    This qualification will enable you to progress onto a related qualification in your preferred trade area. There are lots of opportunities available to you to progress across the South Thames Colleges Group and into the world beyond education. During your time with us you will have access to a dedicated team of careers and education advisors who will help you as you take the next steps towards achieving your goals.

    Candidates will need to provide their own overalls and safety boots.

  • Course Structure


    Modules covered: Introduction to Health and safety in construction Introduction to the Construction industry Constructing half brick walls and half returns. Working with, removing and fitting water filled radiators and non-manipulative fittings. Constructing halving, housing and bridle joints. GCSE Maths and English are included in the Full Time programme. You will be given details of course materials, stationery and the health and safety equipment you will require when you enrol on the programme.
